Some Benefits of Unemployment, or Underemployment
I’m making the world better for birds—my unemployment, their benefit. I roll the green hose with sprinkler head around the yard, dampening the soil for the worm dig. I fill the bird bath once, sometimes twice, daily; plus the dog dish which is sparrow bath. They bathe—flap, dip, dive—then preen on the fence, skittering off if I move in the slightest. They’ve not gotten used to me yet.
I want to tame a wild bird or two. Maybe a cardinal, though the robin looks friendlier.
Also, this: fireflies.
